The La Grange plan area

The La Grange groundwater subareas are located south of Broome, within the Kimberley region, in the North of Western Australia.
The area extends from the Roebuck plains down towards Eighty Mile Beach and the Mandora Marshes.
La Grange groundwater resources
La Grange groundwater is divided into two subareas, the La Grange North subarea and the La Grange South subarea.
Both of these subareas include the groundwater resources of the Broome Sandstone aquifer and the Wallal Sandstone aquifer.
Water management planning in the La Grange groundwater subareas
We have developed a draft water management plan for the La Grange groundwater subareas. The plan is now open for public comment until 5:00pm 12 December 2008.
Why has the department prepared a water management plan for La Grange?
Demand from horticulture and mining development for the groundwater resources in the La Grange plan area is expected to increase. Planning is needed to protect the water needs of the community and the environment and ensure that water users have a secure access to water.
The plan shows how water is managed now and how future access to water will be managed to support community and environmental needs.
