Stakeholder Forums
A series of stakeholder forums will be held as the Department of Water works in partnership with the community and industry towards sustainable water management in the Pilbara.
About 60 representatives from environment and indigenous groups, the mining sector, non-mining industries and pastoralists and graziers attended a forum held in Karratha on 28 May 2007, marking the first formal milestone in the development of the Pilbara Regional Water Plan.
The forum considered latest research examining water demand, supply and environmental issues in the Pilbara region.
Further forums are planned which will continue to explore the issues, challenges and strategic direction for water management in the region.
Workshops will also be held to develop a separate Mining and Water Policy for the Pilbara region, where mining is the dominant activity.
