New Water Resources Legislation

The Final Report of the Irrigation Review Steering Committee and the Government Response initiated significant water reforms in Western Australia.

To achieve these reforms, the State Government is repealing existing legislation and developing a new Act to govern water resource management.

In addition to facilitating key elements of the water reform program, the new Act will assist Western Australia to meet the requirements of the National Water Initiative.

It will also consolidate and modernise various water resource management provisions in current Acts and by-laws.

The result will be comprehensive, modern legislation that will underpin sustainable and integrated management of Western Australia’s water resources.
