Water Legislation Amendment (Competition Policy) Act 2005
The Water Legislation Amendment (Competition Policy) Act 2005 passed through Parliament in the Spring Session 2006.It made a number of amendments to legislation, which had been recommended by the National Competition Policy Legislation Reviews.
The legislation provides better value and more efficient water supplies to Western Australian consumers. The most significant aspects of the legislation are that it:
- requires the Water Corporation to seek Ministerial approval to take land compulsorily and extends this power to other licensed water service providers;
- establishes common penalties for similar offences under the various water-related Acts; and
- increases the flexibility for service providers to enter into agreements to provide services.
