In addition to planning a sound water future for Western Australia through the preparation of a State Water Plan and Regional Water Plans,  we have a number of policies that address specific issues such as protecting water quality and drinking water sources, managing unused water entitlements and ensuring consistency in implementing transferable water entitlements.

This policy provides guidance on when Hydrogeological Assessments and groundwater monitoring reports (collectively referred to as hydrogeological reports) will be required, and the information that they should contain. It replaces the current guidelines for hydrogeological reports and groundwater monitoring reports associated with a Groundwater Well Licence (Water and Rivers Commission, May 1998).

Adobe Portable Document Format Statewide Policy No. 13 - Policy and Guidelines for Recreation within Public Drinking Water Source Areas on Crown Land

The primary aim of this policy document is to protect the ‘drinking water’ environmental value of PDWSAs on Crown land, in the interest of public health. This will be achieved by protecting drinking water sources from contamination that may be caused by inappropriate recreational activities. It is also expected that other values (e.g. aquatic ecosystems) will be afforded some protection through this policy.

This policy describes the process for managing stream disputes and under what conditions the Commission will be involved such disputes. It details the responsibility, actions and information to be provided by landowners accessing the watercourse, if a dispute arises.

This policy has been prepared to provide a consistent approach in managing unused licensed water entitlements. It establishes a set of principles that will guide the Department when making decisions on licensed water entitlements that have consistently not been fully utilised and under what conditions these entitlements may be recouped for possible redistribution.

This policy applies State wide, to all applicants and licensees (regardless of the nature of their legal structure) who are required to develop and implement an operating strategy, as a condition of being granted a licence under the Rights In Water and Irrigation Act 1914 to take and user either groundwater or surface water.

The intent of this policy is to define the circumstances under which the Department will give undertakings for the granting of licences to take water, the approval of agreements with respect to water entitlements, permits to interfere with a water course or licences to construct a well.

This policy will provide guidance to Department staff, water users and other interested parties.
