Strategies and Management Plans

The Department of Water is responsible for developing strategies and management plans to protect the quantity and quality of water resources, protect infrastructure from flooding and enhance the living environment for the community. We are embarking on a five-year program to prepare drainage and water management plans to cover the major urban expansion areas across the Perth to Peel and South West regions. These plans support an urban water management framework, based on a catchment management approach, to achieve integrated water cycle management and water sensitive urban design.

This report summarises the completed work and recommends an outline for the preparation of a water resource management strategy (WRMS). It deals mainly with water quality issues. Water quantity will be addressed in a Stormwater Management Strategy and be dealt with as part of the preparation of the final WRMS that will be regional over the whole JSP area.

This report was prepared by consultants GHD Pty Ltd engaged by the Water Corporation on behalf of the Southern River Water Coordinating Group, chaired by the Department of Water. The report provides current advice for integrating land and water management planning in the structure plan area. The Forrestdale Main Drain Arterial Drainage Scheme is being prepared and will be published once it has been finalised. Detailed planning for the Wungong (Brookdale) area of the structure plan will be implemented through the Armadale Redevelopment Authority’s ‘Wungong Water’ project. Documents for this project are available from the Armadale Redevelopment Authority website.
