Luke Pen Scholarship Trust
The Luke Pen Scholarship Trust has been established to provide funding for research into specific aspects of waterway management. Areas the late Dr Luke Pen considered to be in critical need of research and understanding, to assist and direct management efforts, include:
- Wheatbelt valleys and their waterways
- the hydrology of the south-west of Western Australia
- plants that increase water use to help manage changes in hydrology
- salt tolerant plants for use in salinising landscapes.
Dr Pen had the vision of encouraging young people to be involved in the gaining of scientific knowledge of river characteristics. The Trust has been established for a five-year period with total funding of $50,000. Each year there will be a call for projects across all Western Australian universities that address one or more of the above four areas.
